Des centaines de milliers de pèlerins présents à la Mecque en Arabie saoudite convergeaient jeudi matin vers le site de Mina, près de la Mecque, pour accomplir les rites du 5e pilier de l’Islam.
Pour ce rite, de nombreux fidèles font le voyage à pied jusqu’à Mina, à sept kilomètres de la Grande Mosquée de la Mecque, située dans l’ouest de l’Arabie saoudite. Mercredi, ils ont accompli dans la Grande Mosquée le rite du “tawaf”, ou la circumambulation autour de la Kaaba.
Covid oblige, la foule de pèlerins a été limitée cette année à un million de fidèles, soit plus de deux fois moins qu’en 2019. C’est toutefois bien davantage que les deux dernières années, où les participants avaient été réduits à quelques dizaines de milliers, les étrangers ayant été exclus.
Quelque 850.000 musulmans venus du monde entier ont été autorisés cette année, à condition d’être vaccinés et de présenter un test PCR négatif. Cependant, le Hadj 2022 se déroule dans un contexte de reprise épidémique dans plusieurs pays du Golfe, qui ont récemment remis en place des mesures barrières.
Quatre hôpitaux et 26 centres de santé ont été mis en place à Mina, selon les autorités saoudiennes.
Vendredi, les pèlerins entameront l’ascension du mont Arafat, moment fort des rituels du hadj, dédié aux prières et aux invocations. Et samedi, ils doivent procéder à la lapidation de Satan à l’aide de cailloux (Djamarat al-Aqaba).
