Le secrétaire général de l’ONU, Antonio Guterres, a exprimé mercredi son admiration pour la vision globale du président de la République, M. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, pour les affaires du monde, saluant l’engagement constant du président Tebboune et son rôle dans la promotion de la paix et de la stabilité régionale et internationale.
Au terme de sa mission en tant que représentant permanent auprès des Nations unies, Nadir Larbaoui s’est entretenu avec M. Guterres, avec lequel il a évoqué les relations de coopération entre l’Algérie et l’organisation onusienne ainsi que les questions régionales et internationales.
A cette occasion, M. Guterres s’est félicité des relations privilégiées entre l’Algérie et l’ONU qu’il a qualifiées d’exemplaires, et chargé M. Larbaoui de transmettre ses chaleureuses salutations au président de la République, M. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, en exprimant son admiration pour sa vision globale des affaires du monde.
Soulignant que “cette maîtrise des affaires internationales est désormais de plus en plus rare”, le SG de l’ONU a dit garder en mémoire les échanges approfondis qu’il a eus avec le chef de l’Etat lors du Sommet arabe tenu à Alger les 1er et 2 novembre de l’année écoulée.
Il a, par ailleurs, tenu à saluer l’engagement constant du président Tebboune et son rôle dans la promotion de la paix et de la stabilité régionale et internationale.
Les entretiens ont également permis d’évoquer la question du Sahara occidental, non encore résolue, et le soutien apporté à l’action de l’Envoyé personnel du SG de l’ONU, Staffan de Mistura.
La crise libyenne ainsi que la situation au Sahel et particulièrement au Mali, ont été également au centre des entretiens entre les deux parties.
M. Guterres a salué, en outre, les efforts et la position de principe de l’Algérie pour un règlement rapide de ces crises.
Pour sa part, M. Larbaoui a remercié le SG de l’ONU pour le soutien qui lui a été apporté pour l’accomplissement de sa mission, réitérant l’attachement de l’Algérie au multilatéralisme, soumis actuellement à rude épreuve, ainsi qu’aux valeurs et principes de la Charte des Nations unies, particulièrement ceux relatifs à la décolonisation.
Il a également exprimé le soutien constant de l’Algérie au secrétaire général dans ses efforts visant à la réalisation du Programme commun, et la mise en œuvre des Objectifs du développement durable.
C’est animée de cette disposition que l’Algérie a présenté sa candidature à un poste de membre non permanent du Conseil de sécurité au titre du mandat 2024-2025 dont les priorités ont été consignées dans un aide-mémoire. Une copie a été remise au secrétaire général ainsi que les outils promotionnels de la candidature.
Par ailleurs, M. Larbaoui a eu également dans le cadre de sa visite d’adieu, des entretiens avec l’Envoyé personnel du SG de l’ONU pour le Sahara occidental, Staffan de Mistura.
