Pas moins de 1.025 coureuses et coureurs dont plusieurs étudiants de pays africains résidant en Algérie ont pris part samedi à Batna à la 13ème édition du marathon international Medghassen.
Le coup d’envoi de la course a été donné devant le complexe sportif 1er novembre 1954 de la ville de Batna par le wali Mohamed Benmalek qui a affirmé le soutien des autorités locales pour ces manifestations et leurs efforts pour réhabiliter le mausolée royale numide Medghassen qui se trouve dans la commune de Boumia.
Ce marathon revêt une dimension culturelle et touristique en promouvant ce monument archéologique en tant que destination touristique et vestige plusieurs fois millénaire à préserver, a souligné de son côté, Azzedine Guerfi président de l’association les Amis du Medghassen organisatrice du marathon en coordination avec la ligue de wilaya d’athlétisme.
Evoquant les efforts faits ces dernières années pour stopper la dégradation de ce tombeau, Guerfi a estimé que l’objectif derrière tout cela est le classement de ce vestige parmi le patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO.
Le marathon s’est déroulé dans d’excellentes conditions d’organisation et a été marqué par une concurrence serrée notamment dans la course des 13 km qui a connu la participation de 600 athlètes, a souligné Hakim Ghouil, directeur de l’organisation et de la compétition de la ligue d’athlétisme.
Cette joute sportive comprend trois épreuves, la course des 13 km, le relais 21,1 km x 2 et le marathon de 42,195 km.
