Ce jeudi 20 mars 2025, le tribunal de Dar El Beïda à Alger a été le théâtre d’une audience très attendue dans une affaire judiciaire de grande envergure. Le procureur de la République a requis une peine de 10 ans de prison ainsi qu’une amende d’un million de dinars à l’encontre de Boualem Sansal, écrivain et ancien haut fonctionnaire, poursuivi pour plusieurs chefs d’accusation graves.
Sansal est accusé d’« atteinte à l’unité nationale », « outrage à corps constitué », « actes susceptibles de nuire à l’économie nationale » et « détention de vidéos et publications menaçant la sécurité et la stabilité du pays ». L’affaire remonte à octobre dernier, lorsqu’il avait tenu des propos controversés dans une interview accordée au média français d’extrême droite *Frontières*. Il y affirmait que la France coloniale avait amputé le Maroc de territoires au profit de l’Algérie, remettant ainsi en cause l’intégrité territoriale du pays.
À son retour en Algérie le 16 novembre, il a été interpellé à l’aéroport d’Alger avant d’être placé en détention. L’enquête menée sur ses appareils électroniques a révélé, selon certaines sources, des contenus jugés attentatoires aux institutions constitutionnelles, civiles et militaires du pays.
Son procès s’est déroulé dans des conditions ordinaires, sans mesures particulières. Boualem Sansal, qui a choisi d’assurer lui-même sa défense sans avocat, est apparu en bonne santé, selon notre journaliste sur place. Face au juge, il a nié toute intention de nuire à l’Algérie à travers ses publications, expliquant qu’il ne faisait qu’« exprimer une opinion, comme tout citoyen algérien ». Il a néanmoins reconnu ne pas avoir mesuré l’impact que certaines de ses déclarations pouvaient avoir sur les institutions nationales.
Âgé de 76 ans, Boualem Sansal est né en Algérie d’un père marocain. Avant sa carrière littéraire, il a occupé des postes de haut rang dans l’administration, notamment en tant que directeur central au ministère de l’Industrie. Naturalisé français en 2024, son arrestation a suscité une vive réaction de la France, qui réclame sa libération. En janvier dernier, le président Emmanuel Macron avait déclaré que l’Algérie se « déshonorait » en maintenant en détention un homme malade.
Dans un contexte de tensions diplomatiques entre Alger et Paris depuis plus de sept mois, l’affaire Boualem Sansal vient encore envenimer les relations entre les deux pays.
