Deux séismes d’une magnitude de 6,4 et 5,8 ont été enregistré lundi soir 20 février dans deux provinces turque d’Hatay (sud) et à Samdag une municipalité de la province de Hatay, dans le sud de la Turquie, près de la Syrie.
La première secousse dont l’épicentre était situé dans la localité de Defne, selon l’Afad, est survenue à 20H04 (heure locale) et a été très violemment ressentie par les habitants à Antakya et à Adana , 200 km plus au nord. Des bâtiments se seraient effondrés et plusieurs blessés ont signalés, selon les habitants. Les tremblements auraient été ressentis jusqu’au Liban, la Syrie et en Égypte.
