L‘Algérie a engagé des moyens humains et matériels “considérables” afin de sécuriser ses frontières terrestres et ses accès maritimes, de même qu’un processus de coopération avec certains pays limitrophes a été mis en place à cet effet, a soutenu mercredi, le secrétaire général du ministère de la Défense nationale (MDN) le Général-Major, Abdelhamid Ghriss.
“Mon pays, de part sa stratégie sécuritaire, et tenant compte de l’instabilité prévalant dans la zone du Bassin Ouest-Méditerranéen et dans la bande sahélo-sahélienne, a engagé des moyens humains et matériels considérables afin de sécuriser ses frontières terrestres et ses accès maritimes, de même qu’un processus de coopération avec certains pays limitrophes a été mis en place à cet effet, et ce, conformément aux principes de notre politique extérieure et dans le cadre de la légalité internationale”, a-t-il affirmé lors de la 16e réunion des ministres de la Défense des pays membres de l’Initiative “5+5 Défense”, a indiqué un communiqué du MDN.
Le Général-Major Abdelhamid Ghriss intervenait en qualité de représentant du Président de la République, Chef Suprême des Forces Armées, ministre de la Défense nationale, dans le cadre des activités de l’Initiative “5+5 Défense” inscrites pour l’année 2020, par visioconférence, a précisé la même source.
Cette séance a été présidée par le ministre maltais des Affaires intérieures et de la Sécurité nationale depuis La Valette, dont le pays assure la Présidence tournante de l’Initiative pour l’année en cours, a ajouté la même source.
Lors de cette réunion, le Secrétaire général du MDN a souligné, dans son allocution, “le contexte international et régional particulier” qui caractérise la tenue de cette rencontre, en mettant l’accent sur “l’engagement” de l’Algérie au principe de la coopération dans le cadre de l’’espace 5+5 défense.
“Permettez-moi, tout d’abord, au nom de Monsieur le Président de la République, Chef Suprême des Forces Armées, Ministre de la Défense Nationale, que j’ai l’immense honneur de représenter, de vous transmettre ses salutations les plus sincères et ses vœux de réussite à l’occasion de la tenue de cette 16e réunion des ministres de la Défense des pays membres de l’Initiative +5+5 Défense+, coïncidant avec le 30ème anniversaire du Dialogue (5+5)”, a indiqué le communiqué du MDN.
Etaient inscrits à l’ordre du jour de cette réunion, les enjeux régionaux et les défis communs des pays membres de l’Initiative, en l’occurrence l’Algérie, la France, l’Italie, la Libye, Malte, la Mauritanie, le Maroc, le Portugal, l’Espagne et la Tunisie.
Il était question également d’évaluer le taux d’exécution du Plan d’Action de l’Initiative pour l’année en cours et l’approbation du Plan d’Action pour l’année 2021.
Les travaux de cette réunion ont été sanctionnés par l’approbation de la Déclaration conjointe, définissant les axes de coopération militaire multilatérale pour la coordination des actions visant à promouvoir la sécurité et la stabilité en Méditerranée occidentale.
