La France a déploré hier lundi les critiques et menaces du gouvernement algérien à l’encontre de son ambassadeur qui ne reflètent pas, selon elle, la “qualité” des relations bilatérales.
Interrogé par le journal en ligne Arabic Post sur le fait que l’ambassadeur de France en Algérie, François Gouyette, rencontrait fréquemment des chefs de partis politiques, le ministre de la Communication et porte-parole du gouvernement algérien, Ammar Belhimer, a invité à mots couverts le dipomate à s’abstenir de rencontrer des opposants favorables à une transition démocratique, comme le préconise depuis deux ans le mouvement de protestation populaire du Hirak.
“Je crois que l’ambassadeur de France ne ratera pas ces précieuses opportunités grâce à sa grande expérience et sa connaissance des limites et des règles de la pratique diplomatique, notamment en Algérie, qui, le cas échéant, n’hésitera pas à prendre les mesures nécessaires pour corriger la situation”, a averti M. Belhimer selon le site arabophone.
“Nous déplorons ces différentes déclarations, qui ne reflètent ni la qualité de nos relations bilatérales, ni la dynamique de leur renforcement, soutenue au plus haut niveau par les autorités de nos deux pays”, a répliqué la porte-parole du ministère français des Affaires étrangères.
Elle n’a toutefois pas précisé si le ministère avait protesté officiellement auprès des autorités algériennes contre ces propos peu diplomatiques à l’encontre d’un ambassadeur. M. Belhimer, un ex-journaliste de 65 ans, diplômé en droit d’une université française, est coutumier de déclarations critiques à l’encontre de la France. Ces propos du porte-parole gouvernemental sont intervenus juste après le report d’un déplacement du Premier ministre français Jean Castex, prévu dimanche dernier à Alger, les autorités algériennes ayant jugé le format de la délégation française trop réduit par rapport aux enjeux de cette visite.
Le nouvel ambassadeur d’Algérie en France, Mohamed-Antar Daoud, a dans ce contexte remis lundi ses lettres de créance au président Emmmanuel Macron, dans une atmosphère qualifiée de positive par les deux parties.
“Il faut apaiser tout cela”, avait déjà insisté dimanche le secrétaire d’Etat français aux Affaires européennes Clément Beaune après qu’un ministre algérien eut qualifié la France, ex-puissance coloniale, “d’ennemi éternel”
