Le gouvernement palestinien a appelé, lundi, l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’éducation, la science et la culture (UNESCO) à intervenir pour empêcher la mise en place d’un projet de colonisation sioniste sur le site archéologique de Sebastia, dans le Nord de la Cisjordanie.
Le Premier ministre palestinien, Muhammad Shtayyeh, a déclaré: “Nous appelons l’UNESCO à intervenir pour empêcher les autorités d’occupation d’établir un site de peuplement adjacent au village de Sebastia (au Nord du gouvernorat de Naplouse)”.
Il a ajouté que l’établissement de l’avant-poste “causerait de graves dommages au site historique du village”.
Pour sa part, le maire du village de Sebastia, Mohammad Azim, cité par des médias, a ajouté que le projet comprend “la conversion de la zone archéologique en un parc appartenant au Conseil de colonisation sioniste, y compris la réalisation de fouilles, l’excavation de tombes, la construction de routes et l’encerclement du site avec des fils de fer barbelés”.
Azim a exprimé sa crainte que le projet de colonisation “change le caractère et l’apparence historique de l’endroit et démolisse les installations et bâtiments palestiniens situés sur le site ciblé”.
Il a mentionné que la Palestine avait soumis une demande il y a trois ans à l’UNESCO pour inscrire le site sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial.
Le maire de Sebastia a indiqué que “des projets ont été mis en œuvre avec l’ONU, au cours de la dernière période, pour réhabiliter le site en vue de son inscription sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial”.
