Le ministre sahraoui des Affaires étrangères et des Affaires africaines, Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, a discuté à Londres avec le ministre d’Etat britannique pour le Moyen-Orient et l’Afrique du Nord (MENA), Hamish Falconer, des derniers développements concernant le processus de paix mené par l’ONU au Sahara occidental occupé par le Maroc.
“Une délégation sahraouie conduite par Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, a rencontré au siège du ministère britannique des Affaires étrangères, Hamish Falconer, à l’invitation de ce dernier. Les deux parties ont discuté des récents développements concernant le processus de paix mené par l’ONU au Sahara occidental, occupé par le Maroc depuis 1975”, rapporte l’agence de presse sahraouie SPS.
Les discussions ont aussi porté sur “le rôle constructif que le Royaume-Uni pourrait jouer pour soutenir les efforts de l’Envoyé personnel du Secrétaire général de l’ONU, Staffan de Mistura, afin de faire avancer le processus de paix”, d’après SPS.
Dans ce contexte, les deux parties ont souligné l'”importance de respecter les principes fondamentaux consacrés par la Charte des Nations unies et d’autres instruments internationaux, ainsi que les normes fondamentales du droit international, notamment la promotion et le respect des droits de l’homme et des peuples”.
Elles ont souligné également “la nécessité de parvenir à une solution politique juste, pacifique et mutuellement acceptable qui garantisse le droit du peuple du Sahara occidental à l’autodétermination, conformément aux résolutions pertinentes de l’Assemblée générale et du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, comme seule voie viable vers une paix durable dans la région”.
La partie sahraouie a exprimé l'”espoir que le Royaume-Uni utiliserait son influence de manière constructive pour faire avancer le processus de paix mené par l’ONU vers une solution et participerait activement au soutien de la paix, de la reconstruction et du développement durable au Sahara occidental post-conflit”, selon l’agence sahraouie.
Par ailleurs, les deux parties ont exprimé leur satisfaction à l’égard de la réunion de haut niveau et sont convenus de maintenir le dialogue pour approfondir la compréhension des questions d’intérêt commun.
La délégation sahraouie comprenait, aux côtés du ministre des Affaires étrangères et des Affaires africaines, Sidi Mohamed Omar, représentant du Front Polisario auprès de l’ONU et coordonnateur auprès de la Mission des Nations unies pour l’organisation du référendum au Sahara occidental (MINURSO), Mohamed Sidati, représentant du Front Polisario au Royaume-Uni et en Irlande du Nord et Sidi Breika, représentant sortant du Front Polisario au Royaume-Uni.
Du côté britannique, la rencontre a vu la participation des conseillers du ministre et des directeurs des divisions concernées du ministère des Affaires étrangères, du Commonwealth et du Développement.

Des unités de l’Armée sahraouie ont ciblé mercredi par des bombardements intenses deux bases militaires relevant de l’armée d’occupation dans la région d’El Faayine dans le secteur de Farsia, “leur infligeant de lourdes pertes humaines et matérielles”, précise le communiqué rapporté jeudi par l’Agence de presse sahraouie (SPS).
Les attaques de l’APLS se poursuivent contre les positions et retranchements des forces d’occupation marocaines, conclut le communiqué.
