Des étudiants afghans en attente de leur tour pour présenter des documents afin d’obtenir des visas se trouvaient devant le service consulaire. Sputnik Afghanistan a appris auprès de témoins que le nombre de victimes pourrait approcher la vingtaine. Selon ces témoins, de nombreuses ambulances se dirigent vers les lieux de l’accident.
En août 2021, le mouvement des talibans* s’est emparé de Kaboul et a proclamé la fin de la guerre avec les troupes gouvernementales. Dans la nuit du 30 au 31 août, les troupes américaines ont quitté l’aéroport de Kaboul, mettant ainsi fin à 20 ans de présence en Afghanistan.
