C’est grandiose. Digne des Jeux olympiques. Une cérémonie d’ouverture se tient et mêle “tradition qatarienne et culture universelle”. Dans l’enceinte de 60.000 places d’Al-Bayt, à Al-Khor, au nord de Doha, la cérémonie d’ouverture durera une trentaine de minutes. Ce spectacle son et lumière, marque déjà tous les esprits.
Cette cérémonie d’ouverture, « mêlant tradition qatarie et culture universelle », s’est poursuivie avec une chorégraphie censée représenter l’accueil réservé au Qatar pour les étrangers, en mettant en avant « la beauté chez les autres malgré nos différences ». Une première célébrité était au centre du terrain pour ce spectacle, l’acteur américain Morgan Freeman. L’autre tête d’affiche de cet événement inaugural est l’un des membres du célèbre groupe de K-pop sud-coréenne BTS.
Une première partie de la cérémonie est consacrée aux hymnes des différentes Coupes du monde de ces dernières années. Les mascottes de chacun de ces événements font leur apparition dans le stade, pour rendre hommage à une compétition lancée en 1930.
