Un séisme de magnitude 6,2 a frappé ce mercredi 23 avril la région d’Istanbul, sans faire de victime ni de dégât majeur, selon les autorités turques. Le tremblement de terre a été enregistré en mer de Marmara, au large de Silivri, à environ 40 km au sud-ouest d’Istanbul. La secousse a été fortement ressentie dans la capitale économique de la Turquie, qui abrite près d’un cinquième de la population du pays.
Trois séismes successifs en quelques heures
Selon l’agence turque de gestion des catastrophes AFAD et le ministre de l’Intérieur Ali Yerlikaya, le séisme principal s’est produit peu avant 13 heures locales (10h en Algérie), à une profondeur de 10 km. Il s’agissait du deuxième d’une série de trois secousses enregistrées dans la même journée :
– Le premier séisme a été ressenti à 11h13, d’une magnitude de 3,9
– Le troisième, à 11h51, a atteint une magnitude de 4,4
Des répliques ont ensuite été détectées, notamment dans le district de Büyükçekmece, à l’ouest d’Istanbul.
Des scènes captées en direct sur les chaînes d’information
Le séisme a provoqué des moments de panique visibles sur les réseaux sociaux. Des internautes ont partagé des vidéos des secousses, dont certaines ont été captées en direct à l’antenne sur CNN Turquie, interrompant brutalement un journal télévisé. Les autorités ont appelé la population à éviter les bâtiments, par mesure de sécurité.
Une région à haut risque sismique
La Turquie est située sur deux grandes failles tectoniques, ce qui en fait l’un des pays les plus exposés aux tremblements de terre. En février 2023, une série de séismes avait provoqué près de 60 000 morts, dont 53 537 en Turquie et environ 6 000 en Syrie.
