Les autorités turques ont procédé samedi à l’arrestation de trois maires issus du principal parti d’opposition, le Parti républicain du peuple (CHP). Il s’agit de Zeydan Karalar (maire d’Adana), Muhittin Bocek (maire d’Antalya) et Abdurrahman Tutdere (maire d’Adiyaman). Selon les premières informations, ces interpellations s’inscrivent dans le cadre d’une enquête pour crime organisé.
Le maire d’Ankara, Mansur Yavas, figure montante de l’opposition à Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a réagi avec fermeté. Dans un message publié sur X (anciennement Twitter), il a condamné ces arrestations, dénonçant une instrumentalisation politique de la justice. Pour lui, il est clair que « dans un pays où la loi change selon les intérêts politiques, l’État de droit n’a plus de sens ».
Ces arrestations interviennent dans un contexte de pressions croissantes contre l’opposition, notamment depuis la défaite du parti au pouvoir, l’AKP, aux élections municipales de 2024. Le CHP avait alors remporté plusieurs grandes villes, infligeant un revers historique au président Erdogan et à sa coalition.
Mansur Yavas a déclaré que le CHP ne se plierait ni à l’injustice ni à la répression, et qu’il continuerait à défendre l’intégrité démocratique face à ce qu’il qualifie de « manœuvres politiques déguisées en procédures judiciaires ».
