Le réalisateur et producteur, Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina, s’est éteint, ce vendredi, à l’âge de 95 ans, a-t-on appris auprès de sa famille.
Réputé pour sa vision unique, le défunt a marqué l’histoire du cinéma en étant l’un des rares réalisateurs africains et arabes à avoir concouru quatre fois au Festival de Cannes, remportant deux distinctions majeures, le prix de la première œuvre pour “Le Vent des Aurès” et la prestigieuse Palme d’Or pour “Chronique des années de braises”.
Il avait su établir un véritable pont culturel entre le Sud et l’Occident, devenant ainsi la voix du Sud et de son pays pendant près de quarante ans. Il était le doyen des lauréats de la Palme d’Or encore en vie.
Lakhdar-Hamina était l’un des derniers grands maîtres du cinéma épique et lyrique, laissant une empreinte indélébile sur le festival international de Cannes et sur le cinéma en général.
Un hommage lui a été rendu lors du festival de Cannes en projetant la version 4K de son œuvre “Chronique des années de braises” dans le cadre du programme “Cannes Classique”.
Selon ses proches, Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina sera inhumé demain, samedi au cimetière de Sidi-Yahia à Alger, après la prière d’El Asr.
